Holiday shopping
Some Black Friday ads are available online at - http://bfads.net/ - taking a sneak peek is an individual decision. I couldn't help myself! Staples and BestBuy do both have laptops available for $350/400 (no rebate required) and Circuit City counters with mail-in rebates. All stores have some great desktop deals (starting around $200 with monitor). USB drives and MP3 Players abound. Radio Shack has a 4GB USB drive and a 1GB MP3 player at attractive pricing.
A 2 or 4 gig USB drive with portableapps installed - http://portableapps.com/ - would make a great stocking stuffer and would be a gift that keeps on giving. All portableapps are Free/Libre Open Source Software.
Recycling older computers
Anyone with older computers can contact me for disposal/recycling. I will try to do something like freegeek, org. I will charge about the same as the recycling center for disposal (currently $8 or $10 dollars for crt monitors, check - http://www.susquehannarecycle.com/ -). I do have some storage space for the next six months but do not have office/workspace yet. Anything that is not usable for a basic computer will be turned over to the county program as electronic scrap. The Susquehanna Community Information Network has several posts on computer recycling ideas - http://www.susquehannacin.net/index.php?option=com_joomlaboard&Itemid=51&func=showcat&catid=15 -
